After almost forty years working, Luis took early retirement. While searching for a hobby to pass the time, in February 2003, without previous training, Luis enrolled in Peel Board evening art classes taught by Keith Moreau. Following Keith's advice, Luis became a member of Visual Arts Brampton.

Luis now creates at the VAB Studio three days a week under Keith's tutorship, seeing incredible progress. Although Luis has also been trained in acrylic painting, his preferred medium has become coloured pencil.

Luis now is a semi-regular exhibitor at the Artway Gallery in Shoppers World Brampton, and other VAB exhibits.
