BIOGRAPHY
His art experience began in 1945, at his local school. Insisting
on sitting in on his brother's class, after six months he was
lured back to his own class, with the aid of colourful toys and
pictures. His teacher taught him how to write on a wooden plank
smeared with ochre clay. That was the beginning of Anands
journey, creating beauty and beautiful things around. In grade
5, he won a mango drawing competition, giving him the confidence
to pursue his love further.
Studying textile engineering at university, graduating in 1961,
India was in crisis by 1962. Commissioned in 1964, he served as
a Captain in the Indian Army, assigned to the Assam Regiment.
While on duty, he was stationed in a green and beautiful area
of the country, full of flowers, later moving on to the Himalayas.
His painting kit always accompanied him, although he was unable
to put anything on the canvas, the unforgettable memories of the
Khasi hills in the Shillong area, Sikkam and Mizzo Hills were
etched in his memory.
Immigrating to Canada in 1973, he was busy operating businesses
until his recent retirement, and only since retirement has he
returned to painting.
