Laughlines at Artway
Our annual cartoon art exhibition

Visual Arts Brampton is expanding Laughlines to two spaces this year. The 2011 show will run on the normal schedule at Artway Gallery, from 26 March to 29 April 2011, it will also run at Artway Invitational Gallery from mid-April to mid-May.

 

   

Patricia Storms is a children's book illustrator, who also has created award-winning editorial cartoons.

Steve Nease editorial cartoons, with editorials from the past 12 months, through his acclaimed lens. Steve Nease's Pud, the local family classic returns for its 13th year.

 

 

Peter Emslie, a Disney-rooted illustrator teaching character design at Sheridan College, known for his Cartoon Cave punditry, will exhibit some new caricatures.

Jim Caswell, a long resident of Brampton, has worked in the animation industry for over 25 years. He is currently developing animated projects. The show will preview samples of his current creator owned project: MonsterMashupTv.

Ryan C. Thompson, returning with his superpowered webcomic.

Invitational shows at Artway have included Lynn Johnston's For Better or For Worse and Sandra Bell-Lundy's Between Friends, both Ontario cartoonists.

Every year since 1998, Laughlines has featured Steve Nease's editorial cartoons from the past 12 months, as well as a year's worth of Pud, his popular family comic strip. Others are featured each year, a host of cartoon voices.

Past years have featured storybook illustrator and caricaturist Peter Emslie and Star editorial cartoonist Patrick Corrigan.

  • Laughlines, 2003, Steve Nease and Peter Emslie. A meet-and-greet with Peter was held at the studio on May 4.

  • Laughlines, 25 March to 29 April 2005, ASW. Exhibitors included Steve Nease, Peter Emslie, and Colin McClean.
  • Laughlines, 31 March to 28 April 2006, ASW. Exhibitors including Steve Nease and Peter Emslie.
  • Laughlines, 30 March to 27 April 2007, ASW. Exhibitors including Steve Nease and Peter Emslie.
  • Laughlines, unknown to 28 April 2008, ASW. Exhibitors included Steve Nease, Peter Emslie, and Stephanie Czolij. On Saturday, April 19, Party with Pud was an event near to Artway. Steve Nease's Pud character appeared, along with Millie the Art Bug. A colouring table was available.
  • Laughlines, 28 March to 1 May 2009, ASW. An exhibit of cartoon artwork that tickles visitor funnybones. Shown are: Steve Nease will exhibit a year's worth of his editorial cartoons and Pud comic strip, for the 12th year in a row; Tony Jenkins, editorial cartoonist and illustrator for The Globe and Mail exhibited his musician caricatures; Peter Emslie, an illustrator who has worked for Disney, and teaches character design at Sheridan College, will exhibit some new caricatures. Also on display were Ian Eubanas and Stephanie Czolij. Visit Artway on April 4 from 10 am to 5 pm; Pud appeared at the event throughout the day, and visitors to the mall created cartoons for display at Fridge Front Gallery.
