November — Shoppers World Santa Claus Parade
Visual Arts Brampton brought Millie to the parade; she
and volunteers handed out cut-out-and-colour Christmas
ornaments.

June 16 — Weekend of the opening
of Farmers Market, at the PHC
At the Peel Heritage Complex yard sale, VAB had a colouring
table in front of the old court house. BAC mascot Millie
was present. Our annual floral art exhibit was on display
at the Brampton City Hall during this time, and was viewed
by visitors to the Brampton Blooms Flower Show.

June 22-24 — Carabram, Canada
pavilion
For all three days, Visual Arts Brampton members Conrad
Mieschke, Keith Moreau, and Mary Noble exhibited at the
newly revived Canada pavilion. Colin McClean, who was
a member of Animex, was also on display. Leah-Anne Goyeau
arranged the exhibit, and BACs mascot Millie was
present on Saturday the 23rd.

August 14 — Flower City Street Festival
Held from 6:30 to 9:00 pm, some Visual Arts Brampton
members who attend the portrait or life drawing sessions
drew Jessica Miller, Miss Independent Florists of Brampton
2007. VAB also presented Millie and a colouring table at
the event, hosted in the square in front of the Rose Theatre.
The event was held in association with the citys Communities
in Bloom international bid. Our city won the National Over
100 000 category in 2006. |
August 15 — Flower City Community Showcase
A continuation of the Flower City Street Festival, the
event was held at Chinguacousy Park. Millie wandered around
the park, through VAB, and the extra colouring sheets from
the night before were handed out. |
September 6 — Take Back the Night Brampton
While VAB itself won't be at the event, we will be loaning
our display walls to the Sexual Assault/Rape Crisis Centre
of Peel, for their display at Gage Park. |
September 15 — Studios of Brampton promotion
Millie and some assistants promoted the art tour, by walking
around Shoppers World. |
September 21— Brampton Battalion home opener
official tailgate party
Millie and an assistants promoted the art tour, wandering
around the event, held outside the Powerade Centre. |

October 6 & 7 — Studios of Brampton art tour
Tour of artists’ studios and galleries throughout
Brampton, including the Visual Arts Brampton Creative
Studios. Visit, meet the artists, and see how they create
their masterpieces. The Visual Arts Brampton Creative
Studios was one of 10 studios on the city-wide tour. Adult
members Debra Ali and Stephanie Czolij are youth member.

October 19-21 — Looking Up to the Arts
Starting its second year, this Shoppers World event will
feature displays from individuals and community groups all
three days, plus theatre/dance/vocals/musicians performing
in Laura Secord court on the weekend. Visual Arts Brampton
will be there with displays, a colouring table, and possibly
demonstrations.

February 1, 2, 3 — Recreation
and Leisure Show at Shoppers World
On Friday, the portrait bunch worked on a portrait of
a costumed model. On Saturday, some teens worked on artwork,
and reproductions of adult member artwork was on exhibit,
while Millie visited the group's colouring table. The
same schedule was repeated Sunday, sans teen artists.

19 — Laughlines promotion,
Rogers appearance, Pud meet and greet at Artway
Pud greeted folks at Shoppers World during the Artway exhibit
installation. Pud and Keith Moreau appeared on Rogers Community
10 program Daytime. Readers of the long-running comic
strip "Pud", by Steve Nease, could visit Pud "in
person" at Artway, Shoppers World all day. |

June — Millie at the Peel Heritage Complex
On the day of the opening of the farmer's market,
and the Flower City Parade, Millie wandered around at
the museum's yard sale.

July 6, 7, 8 — Carabrams
Canada Pavilion
After about a decade of non-existence, Canada returned to
Brampton's festival of culture. in 2007. For the second
year, VAB artists participated in exhibits at the pavilion,
this year, organizing the room.

August — Flower
City Street Festival
Marian Simpson, Maria Dlubak, and others worked on a portrait
of John McCartney of the Halton Woodcarving Club. Debra
Ali worked on an acrylic painting of an animal. |
October TBA, noon to 4:30
pm — Demonstrations at the Peel Heritage Complex
Three Visual Arts Brampton members will be working on artwork
in the second floor classroom, just next to the primary
museum exhibits. On Saturday, Debra Ali will demonstrate
acrylic painting; she was the Art Gallery of Peel Juried
Art Show's 2007 People's Choice Award winner. On Sunday,
Paul Highgate and Keith Moreau will be working on scratchboard
and printmaking, respectively. |

November 16 — Shoppers World Santa Parade
Our third year in the event was awarded with one of Shoppers
World's three awards. Students from all three youth classes
participated, some of whom were wearing costumes based
on boxes. Millie also walked in the parade.

Come say hi to Pud, star of the popular
comic strip Pud, by Steve Nease. He will be hanging
around the Artway entry corridor of Shoppers World Brampton.

a Cartoon for Fridge Front
Create at our drawing table Saturday. Let us borrow
your cartoon for a month, and it will be on display at
Fridge Front Gallery's own Laughlines show.

Centre/Chinguacousy Library exhibit
VAB is exhibiting in the Brampton Civic Centre entry
corridor, in Brampton Library Showcase. Featured
in the current exhibit are William Band, Marguerite
Finlayson, Paul Highgate,
and Dolores Miron; the show runs March 31 to April 30,
2009. The previous show ran March 2 to 30, and featured
Betty Jean Evans, Paul Highgate,
and Keith Moreau.

Complex
On Saturday, scratchboard wildlife artist Paul Highgate
was on hand to talk with the public.
On display both days was art by Highgate, Moreau, Veltri,
and photographer Chris Edgar.

Complex Sunday only, and will be working on carving a
woodblock for printmaking.

Friends event
Between Friends creator Sandra Bell-Lundy
will on hand to meet and share with the public, on Saturday,
November 14, 2009 at Shoppers World Brampton. Starting
at 1 pm, the event begins with a presentation and talk,
followed by a question and answer period, and a book-signing.

November 22, 2009 — Shoppers World Brampton
Santas Arrival parade
Visual Arts Brampton will be participating for the fourth
year, with holiday characters created by Visual Arts Brampton
youth class students. Joining us this year are Millie,
the Brampton Arts Council mascot, and PAWSitive, the National
Women's Hockey Association mascot.
The parade starts at 11 am in the Winners Court, circles
the entire mall counterclockwise, finishing at the Santa
meet-and-greet area in the Centre Court, near Laura Secord.

Sunday, November
22, 2009, 12 to 4 pm — Spread the Word bookmark
contest
On November 22, kids can come to Shoppers World Brampton
to compete in a bookmark contest. Part of their Spread
the Words literacy awareness initative, the events
will run at the shopping centre from November 22 to December
19. Winners' artwork will be printed for purchase, with
money going to Brampton Library literacy initiatives. The
young artists will receive $50 gift certificates. |

Celebrating Canada's
Paralympians prelude
Wednesday, December 2, 2010 — WinterLights
2009: Winter Wonderland at Chinguacousy Park
This evening event included appearances by Olympic
and Paralympic athletes, including a sledge hockey gold
medal. Sadly, it was raining the entire night, so Podi
stayed indoors; our great thanks to the Brampton Fire
& Emergency Services Fire/Life Safety Education Centre,
our host for the evening.
Thursday, December 3, 2010 — Brampton
Battalion versus the Oshawa Generals, Powerade Centre
During an intermission, the Brampton Battalion will be
hosting two local sledge hockey teams, who will be demonstrating
this action-packed sport, among those played at the Paralympic
Winter Games. The final Olympic Torch bearer for the Brampton
leg of the run, a local sledge hockey player, will be
there as well. The Battalion face off against the Oshawa
Generals.
Podi Paralympic, mascot of the Canadian Olympic Committee's
educational program, will be visiting Brampton to promote
Fridge Front Gallery's Celebrating
Canada's Paralympians. The show will feature portraits
of Canada's Paralympic team, as well as shots of them
in the heat of the action, all drawn by local youth.

2010 BBOT After Business event is presented by the Brampton
Arts Council. Filled with foreward-thinking members of Brampton's
business community, the event will allow VAB to network.
(Even though Visual Arts Brampton is a non-profit community
art group, as opposed to a business, we've been a proud
member of the organization since 2002, as we realise the
benefits of supporting such an organization.) |

Since 2002, Visual Arts Brampton has had
an annual floral art show at the City Hall's atrium gallery.
For Visual Arts Brampton's 24th anniversary project, in
2010, we've asked members to create 24 inch by 24 inch
artwork for the annual show. So far, our members have
entered 25 artwork in the show, but there's still more
to come at the upcoming locations of the show.

so we meet at Stitch It at 10:30 am. When possible, be
in costume when you arrive, as there are very limited
amounts of change rooms.
