Arranged, colours can create a colour wheel. The colours opposite to each other on the wheel are called the complementary colour. Instead of using greys or blacks to create shadows in your artwork, try using the appropriate complementary colour. Mix in the opposite colour gradually, until it creates a darkened shade. Use this chart as your guide to remembering complementary colours. If you like, colour it in, for easier reference.
