This four-week class focuses on building confidence and foundational sewing skills in a fun, supportive, and age-appropriate environment. Students will learn essential sewing safety practices, including proper scissor handling and needle storage, while being introduced to the fundamentals of hand stitching. From a playful monster bookmark to a felt softie, your child will experience the joy of creating handmade projects from scratch!
To ensure a positive and successful learning experience, all activities and materials are carefully selected with young learners in mind. Students will work primarily with felt, a beginner-friendly fabric that does not fray and is easy to sew. Larger embroidery or blunt tapestry needles will be used to promote safety and make threading easier for small hands. Additionally, students will work with six-strand embroidery floss, which is thicker, more visible, and less prone to tangling than traditional sewing thread. These adaptations help children develop fine motor skills, creativity, and confidence while experiencing the satisfaction of creating a handmade project from start to finish.
Students will receive a kit with essential sewing tools such as needles, snipping scissors, needle threader, thimble and measuring tape to take home so they can continue their sewing journey.
