A four-week introductory machine-sewing course designed for children and teens who are ready to learn the fundamentals of using a sewing machine. Meeting for 1 hour and 30 minutes each week, this hands-on program focuses on developing confidence, safety awareness, and foundational sewing skills while guiding participants through the creation of two practical sewing projects.
Throughout the program, students will create two beginner-friendly projects that reinforce newly acquired sewing skills. The first project, a patchwork bookmark, provides an opportunity to practice straight stitching, seam allowances, and joining multiple pieces of fabric together.
The second project, a lined drawstring pouch, introduces basic bag construction techniques, including backstitching, sewing straight seams, and creating a casing for a drawstring.
Both projects are carefully selected to build confidence, encourage creativity, and provide students with practical, handmade items they can use and enjoy.

About the Instructor
Shannon Jordan
My name is Shannon Jordan, and I am passionate about helping children and teens discover the creativity, confidence, and joy that sewing can bring. Whether through hand stitching or learning to use a sewing machine, I enjoy guiding young learners as they develop practical skills and create projects they are proud of.
As an elementary school teacher with over 16 years of experience, I have had the privilege of leading school sewing clubs and facilitating sewing workshops for youth ages 9 to 13. These experiences have shown me that sewing is an accessible and rewarding activity that can be enjoyed by individuals of all skill levels.
